Take a Break: Patterned God’s Eye

The Huichol, the indigenous people of Mexico living in the Sierra Madre Occidential range, believed that crafting an object was a way to get in touch with the spiritual world. The God’s Eye provides a watchful eye over a person, protecting them against future uncertainties. It also served as a symbol of the power of seeing and understanding unseen things. Traditionally, when people made a God’s Eye, they were expressing a prayer that the eye of God will watch over themselves and the person they made it for.

Many people make their first God’s Eye at camp or in school and don’t move beyond it. However, you can make gorgeous mandala patterns. I’ve found the best way to learn this is through videos. If you need a refresher, start with the basic video before moving to the others.
