Take a Break: Make a Holiday Garland

Last year, we had four feet of snow in 24 hours the week before Christmas. Our tradition of harvesting a tree from the woods went right out the window. Instead, we trimmed some various type of fir trees and made a garland for the mantle, which dropped down one side into a “tree” made from various bits and bobs of the pine. We added lights and our favorite ornaments. It was so enjoyable and clean up was a breeze.

After looking at a variety of videos, I found two that show how easy it is to make garlands for mantle place, holiday table, door frame etc.

My preference is to use the variety of greens, dried items such as pine cones and whatever else that strikes my fancy that happens to be in my backyard/neighborhood. However, if you want to keep your garland from year to year, it’s fine to use artificial materials.
