Take a Break: Hold Still


Being still is part of many spiritual traditions, and can be considered a form of meditation. According to zhan zhuang qigong therapists, simply standing still can energize and realign us more than physical exercise, which they say can drain our energy and put too much pressure on the body. There are lots of ways to try this, from holding a particular position or concentrating on a specific word. Below are some ways to “hold still.”

• Close your eyes while sitting or standing. Take a deep breath in through your nose and silently count one. Slowly let that breath out through your nose and silently say two. Repeat this until you get to ten.
