2022 August Holiday Gifts to Start Now: Small Helpful kits
Since 2010, the first Wednesday in August is all about making holiday gifts. After this year’s projects, a list of ones from previous years are included.
This year’s focus is creating helpful kits that families and friends will appreciate. However, the emphasis is on small. August is the perfect time to start picking up containers and items.
First Aid Kit: Save those Altoid Tins and make a kit that can be slipped into a purse, back pack or a desk drawer. Tailor them for the person who will be receiving it. If they’re in the woods a lot, you’ll want to be sure you have a tick remover tool along with the band-aids, wipes etc. Check out the Basic First Aid post for more information about what to include.
Pocket Size Art Kits from Altoid or other Tins: Shop around and you’ll see all sorts of tins with lids on them. Just make sure the tins have well fitting lids
Lots of ways to create Tiny Tin/Wood Kits: I had no idea all the ways people are re purposing Altoid tins. A portable BBQ stove, mini flashlight and the list goes on. Note that there are lots more tins than just Altoids plus there are a variety of wooden boxes and even very sturdy cardboard. Check out the following for inspiration.

- Minature Zen Garden: Some fine sand, tiny features (rocks, sea shells) and a tiny rake will make a wonderful desk top destraction for someone’s office.
- To go Candle: Melt down old candles (add a broken crayon or two) and use butcher’s 100% cotton twine for the wick. Can also repurpose the wicks from partially burnt candles.
- Spice box: For the camper, a spice container to hold more than salt and pepper is a special treat. Altoids small fits inside the bigger tin. Pill bottles, well cleaned, are perfect for spices. Decorate the cap/bottle so people will know what the spice is.
